Aller plus loin : oil dans les Écritures
Oil, in the Bible, is almost never a mere substance: it is the visible sign of the invisible Spirit. Samuel anoints David and 'the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward' (1 Samuel 16:13). The high priest is anointed on the head (Leviticus 8:12). The wise virgins keep oil in their lamps (Matthew 25). And Jesus himself, the Christ, means 'the Anointed One.' To dream of oil is almost always to dream of anointing: received, lacking, shared, renewed — or diverted.
Strates bibliques du symbole
1 Samuel 16:13
« Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. »
Oil precedes the Spirit. If you dream of being anointed, it is almost always a setting apart — often before a change of season or of function. Anointing confirms before trial forms.
Psalm 23:5
« You anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over. »
Anointing is an act of divine hospitality in the midst of enemies. If you dream of being anointed in the presence of adversaries, it is a word of protection and honor — the Father marks you as his own where you feel exposed.
Matthew 25:3-4
« Those who were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them, but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. »
Oil is also reserve. If you dream of lacking oil, of looking for oil, it is a call to maintain your hidden life — prayer, reading, silence — before the hour when it will be too late to go and buy.
James 5:14
« Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. »
Oil is also healing in prayer. If in your dream someone anoints you for healing, it is often an invitation to ask for the concrete prayer of a shepherd for an area you have been carrying alone too long.
Scénarios concrets et leur lecture
Oil is poured on your head
Anointing confirmed. Setting apart for a function, a call, a season. Receive without rushing what will follow — David was anointed then kept the sheep for years.
You lack oil for your lamp
Reference to the foolish virgins. Urgent call to revisit your hidden life. No panic, but no postponement either.
Oil flows abundantly, overflows
Season of outpouring. Often received before a time when you will be called to serve, teach, pray for others beyond your natural capacity.
You anoint someone else
Priestly function activated. The Lord entrusts you to bless, lay on hands, mark. Receive this with gravity — the anointing that passes through your hands is not yours.
Spilled, wasted oil
Examination to do. What was entrusted to you (gift, ministry, spiritual reputation) has been used selfishly or exposed without care. Repentance possible, no despair.
Perfumed oil, like Mary Magdalene's
Reference to John 12:3. Costly act of adoration. The Lord invites you to a gesture of devotion that others may find excessive — do it anyway.
You are refused oil, prevented from receiving it
Relational examination: who in your spiritual surroundings seeks to stifle a call on your life? Anointing is sometimes confirmed despite opposition.
Questions de discernement
1.Did the oil flow on your head, your hands, your feet, an object, another person?
2.What quantity — a few drops, a stream, an overflowing?
3.Who poured the oil — a known face, a stranger, an angel, yourself?
4.Was there a lamp, a horn, a vessel, a perfumed ointment?
6.Upon waking, does an area of calling or service come to mind?
Prière étendue
« Heavenly Father, anoint my head with fresh oil. As you anointed David in the midst of his brothers, as you anointed the priests so they might stand before you, set me apart for what you want to do with my life — even if the implementation takes years. Teach me to maintain the reserve of oil in the vessel, not to live only on the oil in the lamp of the moment. Keep me from wasting what you have poured, keep me also from refusing to pour what others should receive through my hands. And if you call me, like Mary, to a gesture of adoration that others judge excessive, give me the courage to break the alabaster jar. In the name of Jesus, your Anointed, amen. »

Note pastorale
Anointing dreams often return in seasons of vocational discernment (marriage, ministry, moving, commitment). Do not remain alone with these dreams: biblical anointing is always laid by other hands. Submit what you receive to two or three trusted shepherds.
