When you pray and nothing answers

When God seems silent

God's silence is not his absence. But there are nights when the difference is impossible to feel.

Tonight's verse

« My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? »

Psalm 22:1

A pastoral word

The silence of God is in the Bible. Christ himself walks through it. Walking through it isn't being outside of faith — it is being deepest inside of it.

When God is silent, it is not always a sign. Sometimes, it is an invitation: to stop looking for the quick answer, and let the question dig something inside you.

Noctely will not fill the silence in God's place. But it holds you while it lasts. A presence is not an answer — but it keeps you from forgetting you are loved.

Prayer

Father, I don't hear you right now. I come anyway. If you stay silent, keep me seated at your door. I'd rather have your silence than the company of everything else.

Frequently asked

Why is God silent when I need him most?+

There is no universal answer. Scripture testifies to seasons of silence among faithful believers. Silence is neither punishment nor abandonment — it is part of the path.

How do you keep praying when it feels like no one is listening?+

With short, honest prayers — sometimes borrowed from the Psalms. The prayer of lament is a whole prayer. Continuing to speak in the dark is already an act of faith.

How does Noctely walk these seasons with me?+

By offering verses from psalmists who walked through the same, and by keeping a memory of your words, so you can find the trace of your own path.
