Finding Strength in Stillness
« For thus said the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel, “In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength.” »
Today's meditation
The week often barrages us with demands. Perhaps you're feeling it today, juggling multiple work projects, ferrying kids to activities, or managing unexpected household repairs. The natural instinct is to push harder, speed up, or try to control every moving part. We often believe our strength lies in our frantic activity or meticulous planning.
Yet, God offers a radically different path. Isaiah 30:15 reminds us that true salvation and strength aren't found in our striving, but "in returning and rest," "in quietness and in trust." 'Returning' suggests turning back to Him, recentering our scattered thoughts and weary spirits. 'Rest' isn't just about sleep; it's about ceasing our anxious efforts and entrusting our burdens to the One who truly holds all things. In the stillness, away from the clamor, we reconnect with the source of all power. It’s in letting go, in choosing quiet reliance over noisy self-reliance, that His peace begins to rule, and His enduring strength becomes truly accessible to us.
Today, when you feel the pressure to do more, *take five minutes to intentionally stop, close your eyes, and silently offer your overwhelmed mind and heavy responsibilities to God.*
Today's prayer
Heavenly Father, I confess I often try to carry my burdens alone, striving in my own strength. Grant me the grace to return to you, to find rest in your presence, and to trust that your quiet strength is more than enough for today's demands. Amen.
