Message of the day· Sunday, September 6

More Than a Job

« Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ. »

Colossians 3:23-24

What it says

This passage calls us to approach all our work, whether it’s a demanding career, household chores, or volunteer service, with full energy and genuine enthusiasm. The instruction isn't merely about working hard, but about *who* we work for. We are to perform our duties as if our primary boss is the Lord Himself, rather than merely pleasing human supervisors or fulfilling our own expectations. This perspective shifts our focus from immediate, often frustrating, human interactions to an eternal motivation. It reminds us that our efforts, when offered to God, are seen and will be rewarded, not just with earthly benefits but with an eternal inheritance, because in every task, we are truly serving Christ.

What it touches without saying it

Behind the daily grind of our professional lives or family responsibilities often lies deep exhaustion and a sense of being unappreciated. We might fear that our hard work goes unnoticed, or worse, that our efforts aren't good enough to truly make a difference. This can lead to a cynical attitude, where we only do what’s necessary to avoid trouble, rather than putting our best into it. The underlying expectation is often for human praise or tangible rewards, and when these don't materialize, discouragement sets in, making us question the value of our dedication. We forget the divine Observer.

What it asks of you today

Today, pick one recurring task you tend to do half-heartedly – perhaps a frustrating email, a mundane chore at home, or a routine part of your job. Before you begin, pause, and silently dedicate that specific task to the Lord Christ. Then, complete it with your best effort, as if He were the only one you needed to please.

Today's prayer

Lord, help me to see all my daily work through Your eyes. May I serve You heartily in everything I do today, finding my motivation and reward in You alone. Amen.
