Message of the day· Thursday, October 1

Serving an Unseen Audience

« Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ. »

Colossians 3:23-24

What it says

This passage directs us to approach all our tasks with dedication and wholehearted effort, no matter how small or significant they seem. It shifts our perspective from working to please bosses, clients, or even family members, to seeing every action as an act of service to Christ himself. The encouragement comes from the understanding that our ultimate reward, our true inheritance, is not from human praise or material gain, but from God. It reminds us that our daily work, whether in our jobs, managing our finances, or caring for our families, holds eternal significance when performed with a heart devoted to the Lord.

What it touches without saying it

Often, when faced with tedious work tasks or demanding family responsibilities, we can fall into exhaustion or a sense of unfairness. We might fear that our efforts go unnoticed or unappreciated by others, leading to resentment or a feeling of being taken for granted. There can be a subtle pride in wanting human recognition for our sacrifices, or shame if our work isn't deemed "important" by worldly standards. This passage gently confronts the expectation that our value comes from others' approval or the visible success of our endeavors, pointing instead to the unseen reality of serving Christ.

What it asks of you today

Today, choose one specific task you find mundane or overlooked, like doing the dishes, organizing your finances, or responding to a difficult email at work. Before you begin, pause for 30 seconds and deliberately dedicate that task to Christ. As you do it, consciously remind yourself you are serving Him.

Today's prayer

Lord, I confess my tendency to seek human approval and become disheartened by unnoticed effort. Help me to see every task today, big or small, as an opportunity to serve You wholeheartedly. May my work bring glory to Your name alone.
