Message of the day· Thursday, October 29

The Everlasting Source

« Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. »

Isaiah 40:28-31 (ESV)

What it says

This passage reminds us of God's unchangeable nature as the eternal, all-powerful Creator. Unlike us, He never gets tired or overwhelmed, and His wisdom is beyond our comprehension. It directly states that even the strongest and youngest among us will eventually experience exhaustion and weakness in life. However, for those who patiently trust and rely on the Lord, He promises a supernatural renewal of strength. This strength isn't just a temporary boost but an enduring power that enables them to overcome obstacles, persevere without growing weary, and maintain their pace through life's long journey. This is a promise for enduring the demands of daily work and family responsibilities.

What it touches without saying it

Beneath our constant push to perform and achieve, there often lies a deep-seated fear of inadequacy and a profound exhaustion from carrying too many burdens. We worry that if we slow down, we'll fall behind at work or disappoint our family. The passage hints at the silent pride that makes us believe we can manage everything in our own strength, leading to burnout and frustration. We secretly expect that our effort alone should be enough, overlooking our human limitations and the draining reality of juggling professional pressures, financial decisions, and personal commitments. This often leaves us feeling utterly spent, wondering where the energy will come from for the next task.

What it asks of you today

Before starting your next significant task or making a family decision today, pause for two minutes. Explicitly acknowledge to God your current limitations or weariness, and ask Him for the specific strength you need for that particular situation.

Today's prayer

Heavenly Father, I confess my tendency to rely on my own limited strength and understanding. Please renew my weary spirit today, granting me the endurance and wisdom I need to navigate my work and family commitments. Amen.
