A Yes That Changes Everything

« His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” »

John 2:5 (ESV)

What it says

Imagine God speaking to you, not to give you a grand strategy, but to ask you for one small thing. A word to say, an action to take, a habit to change. This is often where the true test of our heart lies, and the source of powerful change.

Hearing the Divine Whisper

In our walk with God, we sometimes wait for great revelations, for flashes of lightning in the sky. But more often, the call to obedience is softer, a whisper in your spirit, a persistent thought. It is the Holy Spirit guiding you toward a specific step, sometimes even insignificant at first glance.

It could be calling that person, forgiving a wrong, letting go of a habit, or dedicating a special moment. It's not a vague concept of "living well," but a clear action that God invites you to take. Being attentive to these small voices is crucial, for they are often the preludes to great things.

The Cost of a Small Yes

Saying 'yes' to God, even for a small thing, always comes with a cost. It's not always financial. It might be the cost of your comfort, your reputation, your time, or even your pride. You must set aside your own plans to embrace His. It is an act of humble surrender.

This cost may seem heavy in the moment. Perhaps you hesitate, weighing the pros and cons. But remember that obedience is never in vain in God's eyes. It's a seed you plant, and it will always bear fruit. Jesus' mother told the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” It was an act of faith, a 'yes' without understanding the outcome.

> Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. Galatians 6:7 (ESV)

A Specific Step This Week

So, this week, I invite you to seek that specific step. What is that 'whatever he tells you' for you today? Listen carefully. Is it sending that difficult message? Apologizing? Making time for someone? Or starting a new spiritual discipline?

Don't delay it. Obedience is for *now*. Ask the Holy Spirit to show you this step clearly. And as soon as you perceive it, commit to doing it. Make the first move, however small. It is in that concrete action that you will see God's power and faithfulness manifest *tangibly* in your life.

For Your Day

Today, take a moment. Take a deep breath. Ask God: 'What is the small step of obedience You are asking me to take this week?' Once you have clarity, write it down and plan how you will accomplish it. Don't be afraid of the cost; God is with you.

What it asks of you today

- I am attentive to the clear voice of my Heavenly Father, in Jesus' name. - My heart is ready to say "yes" to God's directives, in Jesus' name. - The fear of the cost of obedience is broken in my life, in Jesus' name. - I receive clarity for the specific step God asks of me, in Jesus' name. - I act with courage and determination, for God is my strength, in Jesus' name. - Obedience opens the doors of divine blessing for me, in Jesus' name. - I will see God's hand act powerfully through my concrete obedience, in Jesus' name.

Today's prayer

Lord, I come before You and ask You to give me an obedient heart. Open my spiritual ears to hear Your clear and precise instructions. Give me the courage to say 'yes,' even when the cost seems high. Help me to take that concrete step this week, trusting that Your plan is perfect. In Jesus' name,. In Jesus' name, Amen.
