Dreams of water, storms and crossings

Spring, river, raging sea: the Spirit, the trial, the crossing — one single language.

Water opens the Bible (Genesis 1:2) and closes it (Revelation 22:1). In between, it runs through almost every spiritual season: flood, Red Sea, Jordan, Jacob's well, Ezekiel's river, the Samaritan's living water. To dream of water is almost always to receive news of your inner life — and of what the Spirit wants to set flowing there.

Biblical anchors

John 7:38

« Rivers of living water will flow from within the one who believes in me. »

Living water is the direct image of the Spirit. When your dream shows a spring rising, it is almost always a word about your inner life: there is more in you than you think.

Mark 4:39

« He said to the sea: Peace, be still! And there was a great calm. »

Stormy water is never out of reach. If you dream of a tempest on the lake, it is almost always an invitation to let Christ rise in your boat.

Ezekiel 47:9

« Wherever the river flows, life will flourish. »

Ezekiel's river flows from the sanctuary and heals everything it touches. Water that gains dry ground, that makes things green again, is a word of mission.

Discernment for this cluster

Was the water clear or murky? Calm or wild? Did it carry you, drown you, wash you? Were you alone, or was Christ in the boat? These nuances separate a word of refreshment from a word of trial.

Prayer for this cluster

« Lord, let the river of your Spirit flow in me. Wash what must be washed. If the sea rises, stand up in the boat. If the water is murky, clarify. In Jesus' name, amen. »
